- Winning customer announced for Adventure competition
- Subaru position brand as ideal partner for any adventure
- Customer-centric approach continues with new Outback Safari competition
Information Technology expert, Gavin McDougall, drove out of Subaru Bryanston on Friday May 8 with a big cheque – both literally and figuratively – in the back of his brand new Subaru Forester. Measuring 140 by 65 centimetres and made out to him in the amount of R100 000, it’ll set him on a path for adventure.
First on his bucket list is an 18-day round trip to Mpumalanga and on to Mozambique via Swaziland. If it unfolds as planned, it will see him add some 3 000 kilometres to the metallic grey beauty he took delivery of in March.
Gavin’s six-figure windfall comes about thanks to his winning the Subaru – Adventure is Confidence in Motion competition, which was open to anyone who purchased either a new or pre-owned ‘Six Star’ Subaru in the months of March and April. But it wasn’t just a lucky draw: contestants had to describe an adventure (either real or imaginary) they had in mind, with Gavin’s detailed description of his Lowveld odyssey earning him a spot on the shortlist.
“We asked our customers to share their ideal adventure with us,” explains Subaru Southern Africa’s Marketing Manager, Ashley Lazarus. “We weren’t prescriptive but we wanted them to convey the excitement, sense of wanderlust, and inspiration that can come with Subaru’s confidence in motion behind them! We think a Subaru gives people the wherewithal to live differently, and that’s really what an adventure is: something new, that challenges and inspires you.
“We reduced the total entries to the 24 which we at SSA considered to be the best. From there it was a lucky draw, and Gavin’s idea of a flowing road trip with three buddies, stopping regularly at all-African destinations before moving on to the next certainly resonates with our brand. His story started out with: ‘There will be lots of good roads, some bad roads, and sometimes, almost no roads at all..’ which really sums up what a Forester, Outback or XV can do for your lifestyle.”
Says Gavin: “I brought my car from Subaru Bryanston and when Wesley Ragbar – who sold it to me – phoned to tell me I had won, I was taken completely by surprise. I had forgotten all about the competition. But I’m definitely going to use a chunk of my winnings to live out my dream adventure, though I’ve just started a new job, so it will be a while before I’ve accumulated enough leave! I think the Forester is going to be the perfect partner for what I have in mind though.”
Meanwhile, Subaru is well into its next customer-centric competition, this one aimed specifically at owners of the accomplished new Outback, which reached showrooms in March. Anyone who has bought, or does buy, an Outback from its launch until the end of June, will stand a chance to win one of 20 partners-included exclusive safari trips. Details are available on the Subaru website, and from Subaru dealers.
“The Outback is the ultimate crossover for those with adventure in mind, and our new competition will once again illustrate to owners that their vehicle is a conduit to an active and fun lifestyle. In fact, Subaru’s SUVs and crossovers aren’t just for show – they are able to meet the expectation implied by the genre and combine versatility, capability and proven reliability like no other brand,” concluded Lazarus.
